Kaldor Public Art Projects and the Royal Botanic Garden invite primary and secondary teachers and students to visit barrangal dyara (skin and bones) by
Sydney-based Aboriginal artist Jonathan Jones at the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney. From 19th – 23rd September,
Royal Botanic Garden Indigenous Education Officers and Kaldor Public Art Projects Art Educators lead free, interactive, curriculum-driven educational
sessions.
Jonathan Jones’ vast installation comprising shields, a kangaroo grass meadow and soundscape also features dynamic onsite activation programs. Encompassing
Aboriginal language and culture, the themes of barrangal dyara (skin and bones) are significantly connected to contemporary Australian
art and social issues which can be meaningfully integrated into Visual Arts, Design and Technology and cross-curriculum learning including Civics and
Citizenship and Aboriginal and Indigenous studies. Informed by political and social concern for dispossession and reconciliation, the Project offers
new approaches to Australian history and identity, illuminating the highly sophisticated and sustainable nature of Indigenous cultural knowledge and
practices. The online Project 32 Education Kit has been created in consultation with Jonathan Jones and will be available on the Kaldor Public Art
Projects website for free download.
