Lunchtime Talk: Uncle Charles Madden and Uncle Allen Madden
Uncle Charles Madden (Gadigal) and Uncle Allen Madden (Gadigal) will discuss their lived experience of Sydney as local Elders.
Gadigal Elders Uncle Charles ‘Chicka’ Madden and Uncle Allen Madden are respected, well-known members of the Sydney Aboriginal Community.
They have lived in and around the Redfern and inner city areas most of their lives, and have served the Aboriginal community in key organisations including
the Aboriginal Medical Service and the Metropolitan Aboriginal Land Council. Uncle Chicka is also an artist who has received a range of commissions
including St Vincent’s Hospital and the Redfern Community Centre’s Elders Lounge. Uncle Allen has worked as a cultural and education officer, and lectured
widely.
