Over four decades, Marina Abramović has pioneered performance as a visual art form, fearlessly exploring the limits of mind and body. One of the most celebrated artists of our time, she was awarded the Golden Lion for Best Artist at the 1997 Venice Biennale, was listed as one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people of 2014, and has presented solo exhibitions at leading institutions around the world. Marina Abramović was the subject of a major retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2010, and the feature-length documentary film The Artist is Present.
Kaldor Public Art Project 30 Marina Abramovic: in Residence represents the latest development in the pioneering artist’s career, an innovative new experience at the forefront of international art. In this Keynote Address, the artist’s only public talk, Marina Abramović reflects on key milestones in her art practice, elaborating on the journey towards immaterial art, the impact of long durational practices and the transformative engagement with audiences which informs Marina Abramović Institute and Kaldor Public Art Project 30.
