ARTIST EDUCATOR CALL OUT 2020

POSITION OVERVIEW
Extending upon our very successful pilot education program Your Public Art Project, 2019, Kaldor Public Art Projects is calling out to artist-educators across NSW to work in schools as part of the delivery of Your Public Art Project, 2020.

Your Public Art Project is an ambitious learning program which aims to support collaboration, critical thinking, skills development and creative expression. Artwork production will largely take place between Terms 2 and 3 2020 (April - September) with selected deliverables in Terms 1 and 4 (February/March & October - December)

The program is designed to support teachers and students in the development of innovative and site-specific public artworks, through the active involvement of an artist-educator within the school environment. The artist-educator will support teachers in investigating their local environment and local communities, resulting in the delivery of a student-led project, which responds directly to the interests and concerns of the young artists.

Artist-educators will be assigned to partner schools based on their geographical location, interests and connections to specific cultural and community groups. Artist-educators may work with one or two schools as part of the program.

The artist-educator will be offered a flat fee of $2500 per school.

The flat fee covers 35 hours including, one day of project development with the lead teacher; in-school workshops; administration and project planning.

Kaldor Public Art Projects strongly encourages applicants from Western Sydney, regional and remote locations across NSW, LGBTQIA communities and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to apply.


All travel expenses including accommodation, flights and per diems will be covered by Kaldor Public Art Projects.

Please note: A compulsory 2-day training program will take place in Sydney in March 2020.



ROLE DESCRIPTION
1. Work closely with the Kaldor Public Art Projects Education and Public Programs team.

2. Visit assigned school(s) a minimum of 5 times throughout the project primarily throughout Terms 2 & 3, 2020 (April - September).

3. Research past Kaldor Public Art Project projects and develop workshops, which makes the content relevant for students.

4. Deliver digital and face-to-face learning content to students developed by Kaldor Public Art Projects.

5. Work closely with teachers and students to support the development of a student-led public artwork, which speaks to the interests and concerns of the specific group.

6. Facilitate in-school workshops which aid the making process.

7. Share regular updates on the school’s project development with the Kaldor Public Art Projects Education and Public Programs team.

8. Provide constructive and effective feedback to students and teachers todevelop the project.

9. Manage all aspects of the school’s project, including research, site analysis, material exploration, conceptual development, preliminary studies/process work, documentation and evaluation.

10. Create and update administrative documents, such as timelines and reports.

11. Collate and present research in accordance with timelines.



SELECTION CRITERIA
Applicants must be able to demonstrate they have:

      • A current working with children check (WWCC)
      • A demonstrated artistic, creative or cultural practice
      • Experience delivering learning programs for diverse audiences
      • Experience delivering a long-term engagement program with a specific community group
      • A strong ability and interest in facilitating student-led projects
      • Capable of delivering constructive and effective feedback to all learners
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including written communication skills
      • Outstanding organisational skills with strong attention to detail and an ability to manage timelines
      • A demonstrated ability to respond to the changing needs of all learners

Please note: Experience in delivering public art projects is not essential.
